Veterans Day is held on Nov. 11 every year. It originally marked Armistice Day, the day World War I ended, but has since grown to honor all veterans, no matter when they served. The video above is from 1989.

About an hour later, the City of Cleveland Veterans Day Parade kicked off in front of City Hall and hundreds of participants wound their way through downtown Cleveland and back to City Hall. Citizens lined the sidewalks and waved, took photos and videos, and cheered as the marchers passed by.

Though some private businesses observe Veterans Day, most retailers remain open, with many offering special deals. Many restaurants offer free meals to veterans and current member

Many local businesses here in the East offered their thanks by providing Veterans and active-duty personnel with free food.

The American Legion Post 19 held an 11th hour ceremony for veterans. "It’s a way to commemorate those individuals who served and died during World War I," said First Vice Commander of Post 19 Walt Blakesley.
